Memory of Sand

The project Memory of Sand consists in a group of posters with information on the most important landmarks in Guardamar del Segura`s Heritage List. It includes archaeological sites, monuments and vestiges of the town’s recent history. Each of these elements is located in different routes. Follow them and you’ll discover our rich historical past.


The QR codes will allow you to immerse yourself, quickly and easily, into this little journey. Scanning your Smartphone or tablet, geolocation of routes is simple (GPS). Additionally, you can also use our audio guides and please go to our web site should you need further information.

ROUTES

The project Memory of Sand includes 5 different tourist routes, based on Guardamar’s historical past. Each of these routes has a different topic, which you can exploreon foot or cycling. Scan the QR code and connect yourself to the route of your choice.


ROUTE 1 (white): ARCHAEOLOGY UNDER THE SANDS (Distance: 6,36 km)
MAG (Archaeological Museum of Guardamar): Guardamar Castle, La Fonteta Phoenician Port and Islamic Umayyad Caliphate Ribat.


ROUTE 2 (yellow): GUARDAMAR DISCTRICT ARCHAEOLOGICAL ROUTE (Distance: 19,66 km)
MAG (Archaeological Museum of Guardamar), La Fonteta Phoenician Port, Islamic Caliphate Ribat, Guardamar Castle, Cabeço Petit de l’Estany Phoenician site (The Little Hill over the Pond) and Montcaio Hill.


ROUTE 3 (blue): THE IRRIGATION ROUTE (Distance: 6,57 km)
MAG (Archaeological Museum of Guardamar), Sant Antoni Flour Mill, Segura River Iron Bridge, Levante Waterworks Company Irrigation Gates, “Rio Seco” (Dry River) Waterwheel and the Engineer Mira Forestry House Museum (Tourist Info Office).


ROUTE 4 (green): DUNES OF GUARDAMAR REFORESTATION PROJECT (Distance: 2,86 km)
Forestry House Museum (Tourist Office), Alfonso XIII Park, Engineer Mira sculpture, Old Nursery Dunes Group including the cistern, forest house and Engineer Mira bust and the MAG (Archaeological Museum of Guardamar).


ROUTE 5 (red): ENGINEER LARRAMENDI’S TOWN PLAN (Distance: 0,86 km)
MAG (Archaeological Museum of Guardamar). Engineer Larramendi’s original Town Plan stretches from Plaça dels Pescadors (Fishermen’s Square) past Sant Jaume (Saint James) Parish Church to Plaça dels Llauradors (Farmers’ Square).

Using a QR code is a very simple affair. You need a Smartphone or tablet connected to your Internet service. You will download an application to read QR codes. You can do this using the PLAY STORE application (logo Play Store) or Android APP STORE (logo). If your device is Apple, please write “QR” and you will have access.When you download and install the App, it must be activated.
